EmTech MIT has ended
Throughout the year, Technology Review's editorial staff finds and explains the significance of the new technologies that are disrupting existing industries, creating entirely new markets, and changing society. EmTech MIT brings that editorial content to life. Our annual conference provides you with access to the most innovative people and companies that you should be following, all in a program that will challenge and inspire you.

This year's topics include new approaches to scaling alternative energy sources, the changes digital technologies are bringing to traditional education, the growing significance of personal genomics, the unprecedented impact of big data and social technology on everyday life, and more.

Simon Colley

Sloan Fellow
Most of my career has been in experiential education in classroom and ocean-based settings, in the public school system and with non-profit organizations, including 10-years with Outward Bound. My most recent work in this field was as Director of Marine Operations and Senior Captain for the Tall ship Spirit of Bermuda, a program that seeks to create social change at a national level by taking every 8th grader in Bermuda to sea for five days, to improve teamwork, consideration, excellence and sense of their cultural heritage.

I am currently completing an MBA at MIT as a Sloan Fellow, exploring social enterprise models for providing transformational experiences on a significantly larger scale. Of particular interest is the potential for mobile platforms to facilitate process-based, rather than content-based educational offerrings.
